Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec

This painting by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec appears to be of a mother caring for her child. The purpose Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec had for painting this picture was to show how mothers should care for their child the way this mother is. You could also make a case that his purpose in painting this picture is to show that children who are sick should lay in bed and get plenty of rest. It seems to be that this child is sick considering she is holding her arm over her head. Most parents should care for their sick child though, and I believe that is why he painted this picture. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s targeted audience for this painting is for young children who happen to be sick, and for parents of children who are sick. Children who are sick should know that the best thing for them is rest. Also, parents of sick children have the responsibility to help care for their sick child when they need it. The painter’s stance on this painting is a feeling of love. When parents care for their sick child, they are showing their love for the child. For him to paint this, I would believe he has strong feelings of love towards others. The design of this painting is a mother and her child lying in bed. The child is receiving care from her mother. It appears that the mother and child are both wearing a dress of some sort. The bed they are lying in has a yellow blanket and yellow pillow cases. The genre of this painting is of course a painting, which can be viewed on the web.
