The Book That I Would Save for Future Generations

If there is one book that I could save for future generations, I would save the bible. To me, I think the single most important book out there is the bible. I can’t think of a book that is more important than the bible. The bible is a book of such importance to me, mainly because I am a Christian and believe in God. In my religion class during my senior year, each student in the class got to highlight a verse in the bible that we thought was of most importance to us. Once we graduated, each one of us got a bible that showed what verse every student highlighted. I thought that was really cool, and that’s another reason that I would save the bible for future generations. One other interesting fact about the bible is that it is one of the first books ever written. It would be neat to save one of the oldest books in the history forever. The bible is a book that also brings a lot of people together. It connects many Christians. You will see that groups of people get together to pray the bible many times. I can’t think of another book out there can connect groups of people together the way the bible does. The bible shows a list of all of the commandments as well, and I strongly believe in the commandments. The commandments are important to me because it is what Christians live by, and it also teaches a lesson of guidelines. The bible is definitely the book I would keep for future generations.

Halloween

Halloween is a holiday that I have always liked. I always went trick or treating when I was little with all of my friends. I loved getting candy when I was younger, and that was the main reason I liked to go trick or treating. I also liked to dress up for it. I don’t remember all of the different costumes that I wore each year, but one that I do remember the most was when I dressed up as a Pittsburgh Steelers football player. I had the whole outfit. I wore a Steelers helmet and jersey. When my mom and I shopped for the outfit, we couldn’t find any Steelers football pants, so I just wore a pair of black baseball pants that I had. I also didn’t own any football pads, so I put a bunch of long socks in the sleeves of the jersey, to make it look like I had the shoulder pads on. I wanted to feel like I was part of the Pittsburgh Steelers. When I was younger, I never really had any dislikes with trick or treating. Now, as I am much older and don’t trick or treat anymore, I find it funny how there are so many little kids that go trick or treating to as many as three different local communities. So many kids want to get as much candy as possible, so they go to as many area communities as they can. I don’t view this is a dislike really, but more so just find it funny. It’s always fun watching little kids come to the door asking for candy though. It’s a good holiday for younger kids, as well as people who are older.

What Would I Change About WSU?

If there was one thing that I could change about Wright State University, I would change how freshman students can register for classes for each quarter. Right now is the time for students to be registering for Winter Quarter classes at WSU. Currently, freshman can’t register for classes until everyone else has had a chance to register, which is completely understandable. I believe that it should stay that way, but there is one part that I do think should be changed. Currently, there are groups of freshman who can register for classes one day, another group who can register the next day, and so on. I believe that every freshman should have the chance to start registering on the same day, instead of different groups beginning to register on different days. I know a lot of freshman who have already registered for their classes for the Winter Quarter, and I have yet to do it. I don’t know how they choose which freshman can register when, but maybe there is actually a legitimate reason for it. However, I feel as if I am being potentially put behind in this simply because many of the classes I want to take are nearly filled for the next quarter. For everyone else who hasn’t registered yet and is a freshman, I think it is unfair to us. I believe that all students who are a freshman should have the chance to begin registering for Winter Quarter classes on the same day, and at the same time.

The Revision Process

Revision is a very key process when it comes to writing a paper. Many times I will have written many drafts before I get a good, final copy. When I write my original draft for a paper, I don’t always feel all that confident. After I complete my original draft, I begin revising it numerous times. Each time I revise my paper I always find things that can be changed to make it sound better. I probably revise my original draft at least three times before I am satisfied with a final copy.
My thoughts on the process of revision are that it is one of the most important steps in writing a paper. Making revisions is how you make your paper the best it can be. I’m sure not many people believe that after writing an original draft, that that is as good as their paper can be. At least that is how I feel. I always feel that something can be done to make my paper better.
Making revisions on my papers is most definitely making a difference in my writing. I believe that if I were to turn in a paper for a grade after my first draft that I would not get near as good of a grade compared to as if I were to turn in a paper that has been revised multiple times. The instructor’s comments that are made on my original drafts have been pretty clear. I get a pretty clear understanding of what needs to be changed to make my paper more complete. When revising, I have not been having many difficulties. It seems to be coming fairly easy for me. I have a harder time doing the original writing than making the revisions that need to be made.

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec

This painting by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec appears to be of a mother caring for her child. The purpose Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec had for painting this picture was to show how mothers should care for their child the way this mother is. You could also make a case that his purpose in painting this picture is to show that children who are sick should lay in bed and get plenty of rest. It seems to be that this child is sick considering she is holding her arm over her head. Most parents should care for their sick child though, and I believe that is why he painted this picture. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s targeted audience for this painting is for young children who happen to be sick, and for parents of children who are sick. Children who are sick should know that the best thing for them is rest. Also, parents of sick children have the responsibility to help care for their sick child when they need it. The painter’s stance on this painting is a feeling of love. When parents care for their sick child, they are showing their love for the child. For him to paint this, I would believe he has strong feelings of love towards others. The design of this painting is a mother and her child lying in bed. The child is receiving care from her mother. It appears that the mother and child are both wearing a dress of some sort. The bed they are lying in has a yellow blanket and yellow pillow cases. The genre of this painting is of course a painting, which can be viewed on the web.

Without TV Sets...

If we could unplug all the television sets in America, I believe that our children would grow up to be healthier and more independent, but not necessarily more educated. I believe that our children would grow up healthier if all of the television sets were unplugged, simply because the children of America would be forced to become more active. Instead of watching television for a couple of hours each day or night, they would possibly become more involved in exercise, or maybe just something more productive, such as school work. A lot of kids in America spend hours and hours a day sitting in front of a television set, and this in turn leads to obesity in some cases. I think children of America would become more independent without television sets because if they are not watching television, they are probably doing something more productive, and learning more on their own. Television shows can be persuasive in negative ways, and this can lead to children doing things that they are told is the right thing to do when it is not really the right thing to do, instead of being more independent, and doing what they believe is the right thing to do.
I don’t necessarily feel that if we would be to unplug all of the television sets in America that this would lead our children to become more educated. My reasoning for this is because there a lot of shows on television that educate us and that are very informative in a knowledgeable way. Not all children watch television just to watch a fake show. More children than you may think watch television to learn. There are things that can be learned by watching certain shows on television that cannot be learned anywhere else. There is the history channel and the discovery channel which are definitely two educating shows that some children enjoy to watch.

The Power of Advertising

Advertising is something that is seen everywhere in today’s society. We see products being advertised on the radio, on the internet, in magazines, and on television. There is a great variety of products that get advertised today, and all of these advertisements get advertised in different ways. You see celebrities, professional athletes, and even people off the streets helping a company promote their product.

A popular way for companies to advertise their product is by using women. You see women helping promote a product a company is trying to get out to the public very often, and a lot of times, you see it too much.

There seems to be two main ways for women to be helping advertise a product too, and that seems to be of the sexual attraction way, and by using women as objects. A lot of times women will be in an advertisement helping advertise a product, and they will wearing next to nothing. In many cases, there is no reason for that, simply because the product they are trying to advertise has nothing to even do with a woman, but yet it is done because it helps to attract viewers more often.

One of the other more common ways for women to be used in advertisements is for them to be used as an object. A lot of times you will see alcohol advertisements where the girl is shaped into a beer bottle, or something along those lines to help attract viewers to this product.

This may be an effective way for a company to get more of a product sold, but this is one way of advertising that you hate to see be done. It is disrespectful in my opinion for women, or even men for that matter, to be used as an object, or used in an advertisement with barely any clothes on just to try and make the advertisement attract more viewers. In the future, I hope that the usage of women for advertising decreases.
